GSIS is a member of an association of neighboring schools which jointly hold a range of special events through the year. These are mostly competitive student focused events, such as sports day, an English speaking contest, although they also include collaborative events such as shared musical performances and staff-focused events such as teacher training. These, together with intra-school competitions and special events, counterbalance the school’s academic contribution to students’ education.
Although Bangla is the school’s primary language, English is widely understood and used by students and staff. GSIS helps stage an annual English Debate Competition with neighboring schools. By emphasizing formal reasoning and discourse this event – apart from being fun in and of itself – aims to inspire students ambitions to develop their speaking skills for use beyond the classroom. GSIS has enjoyed strong performances in the performing arts generally and music in particular.
